Last Friday our Spanish volunteer, Alex, brought to Idrija the Spanish evening with some dishes and music. The good vibes and dinner were guaranteed, but how was the preparation? what do we know now about traditional Spanish food?
- Some of the dishes need to be prepared the day before because they need to spend some time at the fridge before eating. So I started cooking on Thursday and I continue on Friday until some minutes before the night started. It was tired, but also a really nice experience. I enjoyed the process so much because all the time I had the enthusiasm to show locals how does Spanish food taste.
On the other hand, was kind of challenging to prepare all that dishes, some of them as tortilla, it was the second time I prepared it by myself, and at the end I cooked four!

Croquetas also have the difficulty of getting the perfect dough so later is easier to roll them in egg, bread crumbs and fried them. Others dishes are easier for me as Salmorejo, kind of tomato soup and different from Gazpacho (most known by people). Torrijas were familiar for almost everyone because it is a variety for the Slovenian “šnite” or the French toast.

Before the night starts, I was wondering which one was going to be the favourite dish, but I realised that before midnight, when I saw an empty plate… It was the cake that we used to do at my place as a birthday cake. Just biscuits, milk, chocolate and coconut not even a famous dessert in Spain, but so good and easy to prepare. Actually, a local ask me for the recipe and of course I gave it to her, maybe you have to join the next time if you also want to take it ? ;)
